Kappa Beta Omega has been a sponsor of Vallejo's Annual Juneteenth Celebration for many years. The event supports the AKA Target I Education and Target III Family Strengthening Initiatives.
AFRICAN AMERICAN GRADUATION RECOGNITION CEREMONY
Kappa Beta Omega sponsors the annual African American Graduation Recognition Ceremony for graduating students. Supported by local churches, the event is attended by family, friends and local dignitaries, dozens of students are presented with awards, and the KBO annual scholarship recipients are announced.
THINK HBCU WBAS SPRING CONFERENCE
Each year, Kappa Beta Omega sponsors the Vallejo City Unified School District Willie B. Adkins Scholars Program Spring Conference. The WBAS program (www.williebadkins.com) is an after school college preparation program for high school students that encourages and enables African American students to enroll in colleges and universities. KBO donated $2,500 to support the 2017 out of state tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU is offered each year at which time many of the students are accepted into one or more HBCUs.
PINK GOES RED FOR HEART HEALTH
Kappa Beta Omega supports heart health initiatives each year by promoting behavior modification and other activities. Past efforts include donating an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the Vallejo City Unified School District to be used at an elementary or middle school as part of AKA Heart Health Month.
NAACP MLK MARCH
Kappa Beta Omega participates in the annual NAACP MLK March, collecting donations to support the AKA Global Impact Day Food Drive. Donations are given to the Contra Costa and Solano Food Bank.
KBO Target Activities & Community Events
MLK DAY OF SERVICE
Kappa Beta Omega joined the partnership of Kaiser Permanente and Rebuilding Together Solano County to revitalize Vallejo High School.
MISS FASHIONETTA DEBUTANTE BALL
Kappa Beta Omega presents its annual Fashionetta Debutante Ball as its signature scholarship fundraiser. The event has enabled
the chapter to award over $300,000 in scholarships through the years.
CHILD HUNGER IMPACT DAY
The Family Strengthening Committee partners with Franklin Middle School for the Annual Childhood Hunger Impact Day to support this AKA Initiative. KBO Sorors assist the school's Leadership Team to package dozens of bags of fruits and vegetables for families in the community.
Sorors from our AKA Connections/Political Action committee organize voter registration drives to support the AKA Voter Engagement Community Impact Day.
CALIFORNIA COASTAL CLEAN UP
Kappa Beta Omega has participated in the annual California Coastal Clean Up for the past three years. The CCCU addresses the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Target IV Environmental Ownership Initiative.
RELAY FOR LIFE
Kappa Beta Omega is a longtime sponsor of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life fundraiser. The event allows the chapter to support the AKA Target II Health initiative and provide community service opportunities. KBO raised over $3,000 for the 2017 event.
