SORORITY AWARDS OVER $7,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO SOLANO AREA STUDENTS
Seven college bound seniors from Solano area high schools received over $8,000 in academic scholarships at the 12th Annual African American Graduation Recognition ceremony hosted by Kappa Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Vallejo.
The scholarships were awarded to Elyce Dixon, Armijo High School; Afrika Collier, Vanden High School; Essence Hori, Vacaville High School; Angelique McDowell, Benicia High School; Taylor Crutison, Phillips Academy; Maya Miller, Jesse Bethel High School, and Roneisha Pierce, Jesse Bethel High School.
“Since the inception of our chapter in 1974, we’ve awarded over $300,000 in scholarships to deserving students,” said chapter President Angela Jones. “Providing financial assistance to deserving students who have chosen to attend a college or university is part of our sorority’s mission, and one of the best investments we can make in our young people and in the future of our community.”
